Automotive Action on Terminal Avenue

January 3rd, 2008 Posted in Projects, News | Comments Off

What are the odds of two unrelated automotive-related projects being built almost simultaneously by the same construction company on the same stretch of property? The odds are very good if you are talking about Kindred Construction. We are currently involved in the construction of a service centre/vehicle preparation facility for Yaletown Mini and a one-of-a-kind car wash for another client on the same stretch of property along Terminal Avenue.

Yaletown Mini Service Centre Nears Completion

This conversion of an existing 18,180 square-foot wood-framed warehouse at 780-790 Terminal Avenue is slated to provide for the servicing needs of The BMW Store on West 5th Avenue and Yaletown’s Mini Cooper Dealership. Despite initial delays in the project schedule due to this past summer’s labour strike, the project has progressed smoothly and will be completed at the end of January/beginning of February of this year.

Shine Auto Spa - A Posh Wash for Your Car

When we tell people we are building a car wash,we are sure that the first image that pops into their minds is one of those pre-fab metal boxes you see at your local gas station. Located at 750 Terminal Avenue, this 3,700 square-foot car wash didn’t come as a kit, it was designed by Proscenium Architecture + Interiors Inc. to be a one-of-kind, visually appealing structure that would entice motorists to pull in and spiff up their cars on the commute home. Also unlike your gas station car wash, this one uses an automotive lacquer-friendly friction washing system that will out-clean any touchless system you can find. This project was also subject to permitting delays because of the labour strike, but work is now underway and you should be able to wash your car sometime in June.

Richmond Monastery Project Goes Live

December 31st, 2007 Posted in Projects, News | Comments Off

Almost three and a half years since the initial groundbreaking ceremony (October 9 2004), The Thrangu Monastery - the first Tibetan-style Buddhist monastery of its kind in Canada - is finally under construction. For Kindred, it has been 19 months of working with the Client and the project consultants to get to this point. Work officially began on site Friday, December 14, 2007 - a date considered to be auspicious for the start of construction. Located at 8150 No. 5 Road in Richmond, it is the latest addition to the so-called “Highway to Heaven”, a stretch of the road almost solely occupied by various houses of worship.

The temple itself will be a melding of modern construction technology and tradition Tibetan architectural design. The 3-storey, 21,000 square-foot structure will boast a 4-storey shrine hall, classrooms, a commercial-grade kitchen and dining hall, 25-suite attached dormitory, administrative offices and a residence for the Very Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche (Rinpoche refers to incarnate lamas and/or exceptional Dharma masters; Dharma being the teachings of Buddha). The construction phase of the project is expected to last approximately two years.

On August 8, 2007, A consecration ceremony was held at the monastery site. The main spectacle of the ceremony was the interment of pots filled with sacred objects which, upon completion of the monastery, will reside directly beneath the main Buddha statue in the Shrine hall. You can see pictures from the ceremony here.
