The Vienna House project is a unique initiative between the cities of Vancouver and Vienna to share knowledge and advance innovation in affordable housing initiatives. Both cities will feature a building named after their counterpart, with "Vancouver House" offering affordable housing in Vienna.
Currently in the design stage, Vienna House will be a 6-storey multi-residential building providing 101 affordable rental units. The development is a partnership between the City of Vancouver, BC Housing, the Vancouver Affordable Housing Agency, and the More Than a Roof Housing Society. Processes developed during pre-construction and construction will inform future construction best practises and policy development. This includes the prefabrication of walls, floors, and ceiling components constructed off-site from renewable materials. Building information modelling will be used to facilitate offsite prefabrication strategies, increase quality control, reduce construction time, and reduce environmental impacts. Lastly, an integrated design process will be used to bring all the partners together at regular intervals. This will help maximise efficiencies and collaboratively solve project challenges as they emerge.
