SUMMARY OF POSITION
Reporting to the VP of Preconstruction, the successful candidate will be responsible for the estimation and cost management of projects moving through pre-construction across a variety of sectors, of numerous sizes and scopes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for preparing estimates for assigned projects, assisting Senior Estimators in preparing estimates for larger, complex projects while identifying inherent risks and opportunities for each unique job.
- Ability to develop project strategy to secure each project and establish a critical path schedule to meet the project’s required performance, profitability targets, and contract completion dates.
- Solicit pricing from subcontractors while maintaining focus on customer service and satisfaction.
- Conduct thorough review of the project documents and analyze subcontractor requirements while working with clients and consultants with respect to issues that may require clarification or elaboration.
- Develop preliminary project construction schedules related to critical path through collaboration with project team members assigned and subcontractors.
- Confirm that health, safety, and environmental standards are considered and incorporated into each cost plan/estimate.
- Participate in the closing of the estimate and submission of the tender, in addition to assisting in the development of post-tender submissions including negotiations related to submitted tenders.
- Establish and maintain tendering process and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedure.
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a project.
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
- Assist Estimating team in other duties or tasks as assigned and deemed appropriate.
- Develop, manage and maintain new and existing client, consultant and trade relationships.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- University or technical school graduate in Construction Management, Architectural and Building Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- 1–3 years experience with estimating techniques, tendering processes and negotiating contracts.
- Fluent in written and verbal English and an ability to communicate effectively.
- Experience with software such as Bluebeam, Building Connected and Microsoft Office is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and plans, while critiquing information and providing technical explanations.
- High attention to detail, with the ability to interpret and analyze construction documents.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capacity to actively listen and communicate effectively with clients, trades and internal employees.
- Must take direction well, with the capacity to work independently on assigned tasks.
Salary: $75,000-$82,5000 per year
