About
Founded in 1980 by Richard (Dick) P. Reid, Kindred Construction Ltd. has operated for the past 29 years as a full-service Construction Manager and Project Manager, primarily in the B.C. Lower Mainland and Whistler construction markets. We employ 90 full-time staff, including 8 project managers and 10 project superintendents supported by assistant superintendents, project coordinators and administrative & accounting staff. We have successfully completed over $750 million worth of construction projects in several market sectors, including—but not limited to—high-end custom homes, commercial and institutional, building interiors and heritage restorations. Individual project values typically range from $500 thousand to over $10 million.
Kindred Construction brings organization and focus to a complex, sometimes confusing process. Every project has its own unique set of requirements and challenges that can easily lead to difficulties if not carefully managed. Our project management philosophy is effective because we act on the following principles:
Advocacy. As a construction manager, Kindred represents your values and objectives. Throughout the project we will ensure that all members of the project team and all trade contractors understand and work towards the realization of your goals.
Team-Building. We promote an integrated design process, in which all members of your project team work collaboratively towards a common goal—the success of the project. We take a cooperative, non-adversarial team approach to project development, bringing together everyone’s objectives—budget, schedule, design, function, and facility performance.
Transparency. A great strength of our team is our use of an open-book accounting system, and a clear presentation of our operations and methods. As the project progresses from phase to phase, you will have unrestricted access to the project’s estimates, expenditures and schedule status. This project will also have a complete open-book process for all costing, value engineering and trade contractor matters.
Sustainability. Kindred is committed to construction methods that yield limited impact on the environment. We have managed several projects that were either LEED® certified or made use of LEED® and sustainability principles. We are a member of the Canada Green Building Council, we have three LEED® Accredited Project Managers, and another five who are working towards LEED® Accreditation.
Safety. We have an active Occupational Health and Safety Committee and three registered Construction Safety Officers. Our emphasis on safe work sites is reflected in every project that we manage, and is proven by our exceptional safety record. Kindred was one of the first companies in B.C. to receive certification from the WorkSafe BC/Safety Network Certificate of Recognition program. Our exceptional safety record has recently gained us the greatest possible discount rate allowable by WorkSafe BC for 2007. In November, 2007 we were honoured with the VRCA Award for Safety.
Diversity. We work on a wide and interesting range of institutional and commercial projects, as well as high-end single-family residential projects and heritage restorations. We bring this wealth of multi-sector experience to each and every one of our projects.
Industry Involvement. Our membership and active participation in various construction organizations help us to keep current with changes and trends in the industry that can affect our clients and their projects. An in-depth knowledge of the Vancouver construction market gives us the ability to take advantage of the talents of local trade contractors and suppliers.
We want your project to be a success in every possible respect. Our commitment to the principles described is what makes it possible for us to do this. Add to that the depth of our 29 years of experience, expertise and financial stability, and you have a construction manager who will work towards making the construction of your project an experience worth remembering.
